The department has started in the year 1983. It is now headed by Dr.M C Padma, is reputed to be among the best in Karnataka and is dedicated to producing excellent professionals in Computer Science and Engineering, apart from being actively engaged in research programs.

It has highly qualified and experienced faculty supported by well-equipped laboratory facilities.

The National Board of Accreditation has accredited the department with an 'B' grade for 3 years from 2007.

The department has conducted ISTE, AICTE and other sponsored short-term courses, National seminars and symposia.

The department is also actively involved in distance education programs:

• BSc (IT) and MSc (IT) courses offered by KSOU

The computer center of the department serves as a central facility for the entire college. The department also has a computer hardware laboratory to train its students. The Computer center has a good collection of hardware / software and provides the needed infrastructure for teaching and research. The laboratory facilities and the Internet access are available round the clock to the staff and students of the college.
