Mathematics is the queen of all sciences. We can neither know things correctly nor can have practical utility of computation unless we have the knowledge of Engineering Mathematics. Since Mathematics has cultural and disciplinary values, it occupies an important place in curriculum and in society also. The Department of Mathematics was established in the year 1962 and is in PET Research Centre block. The department has three separate rooms, one for Professor, one for Asst. Professors and the other for lecturers. Faculty is Provided with necessary Computing and Internet facilities. The staff pattern of the Department consists of one Professor, two Assistant Professors and four lecturers. At present, the department possesses seven staff members including three doctorates.
The department staff handle the following subjects for B.E. & MCA courses:
- Engg, Mathematics-I & II for first year B.E. and Engg. Mathematics –III & IV for second year B.E. (The above four courses are common to all branches)
- Advanced Mathematics- I & II for second year B.E. students of Diploma holders category.
- Mathematics, Discrete Mathematical structures and computational techniques for first year M.C.A.
- Graph Theory and Combinatorics – for second year B.E.(CS&E and IS&E)
The Department has been recognized as a research center by Mysore University and qualified students can register for PhD programmes. They will be governed by the regulations prescribed by the University of Mysore, Mysore. from time to time. At present five students are doing Ph. D. The following are a few areas of interest in which the specializations are available for carrying out research in the department of mathematics.
Areas of Specialization: BOUNDARY LAYER THEORY, MHD, GRAPH THEORY, NUMBER THEORY & APPLIED MATHEMATICS.
