
Department of Physics came into existence in the year 1962 and it is located in the first floor of Administrative Block, over an area of about 4000sq.ft. As per the teaching staff pattern, there should be one Professor, one Assistant Professor and two Lecturers. At present the department has one Professor, one Assistant Professor, one Selection Grade Lecturer and one Lecturer. Among them the Professor and Head of the department and Assistant Professor have Ph.D. degree and the other two have M. Sc., degree. In case of Non-teaching staff pattern there should be one Assistant Instructor, one Mechanic and three Helpers. At present, the department is having one Mechanic and two helpers. The department of Physics is fully equipped to conduct experiments to the students of I / II B.E. as per VTU syllabus. Laboratory is quite spacious to accommodate 20-25 students at a time to conduct experiments. In one side of the laboratory there are two separate rooms with all facilities, among which one for Professor and HOD, and the other for the staff. On the other side of the laboratory there is a separate dark room for conducting optical experiments, a separate chamber for the staff and a store room cum computer room. Staff members are also helping the students in their project work of various engineering departments.
The faculty members of the department have published eight (08) papers in National & International journals and thirteen (13) papers presented in different symposia / conferences.
Dr. Shivalinge Gowda, Assistant Professor and HOD of the department is involved in research activities. He guided nine students for M. Phil degree and all of them have got M. Phil degree.
In order to continue the research work, we were applied an application to the University of Mysore, Mysore, to include our department in the PET research foundation as one of the department to carry out the research work. In connection with this we were establish a separate lab in the department. The university experts committee was also visit our department for verification.
Faculty provided with necessary computing and internet facilities.
The department faculties are well qualified and experienced. They have specialized in different branches of Physics. They are very much interest in teaching the subject using their skills with modern tools. In the laboratory, the teachers are taken keen interest with each student to get better results and good skill to do that experiment.
